The Association of Fundraising Professionals Northeastern Pennsylvania (AFP NEPA) Chapter announced it is accepting nominations for the 2024 National Philanthropy Day Awards.

The nomination deadline is Friday, July 12. All awardees will be recognized the National Philanthropy Day 2024 Luncheon on Friday, November 22, at The Woodlands Inn and Resort in Wilkes-Barre.

The annual National Philanthropy Day awards program recognizes outstanding achievements by individual, foundation and corporate philanthropists, fundraising volunteers and professional fundraisers. In professional fundraising, such individuals and organizations form a vital partnership with charities and the nonprofit sector to ensure that the needs of all citizens are met. These awards are given in recognition to individuals and organizations who hold high ethical standards and whose lifetime or long-term achievements have made a significant impact upon society.

National Philanthropy Day was originally conceived of and organized by Douglas Freeman in the 1980s and the first official event was held in 1986 after then-President Ronald Reagan signed the official National Philanthropy Day proclamation. The day provides an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of giving and all that it has made possible. Last year, more than 130 AFP chapters held National Philanthropy Day events and activities across North America.

Nominations for any award may be submitted by an individual AFP member, an AFP chapter or an outside individual or organization. The categories include Outstanding Philanthropist, Outstanding Foundation, Outstanding Lifetime Achievement, Outstanding Fundraising Professional, Outstanding Corporation, Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser, Outstanding Small Business and Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy.
Winners are selected by a subcommittee of AFP NEPA Chapter board members, AFP members and past honorees.
