Nominations Open for 2023 Awards in Philanthropy

Updated: Jun 16, 2023

Get your nominations in before July 28

Association of Fundraising Professionals Northeastern Pennsylvania Chapter is proud to present the chapter's annual National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon. The awards program recognizes outstanding achievements by individuals, foundation and corporate philanthropists, fundraising volunteers, and professional fundraisers.

In professional fundraising, such individuals and organizations form a vital partnership with charities and the nonprofit sector to ensure the needs of all citizens are met. It is right and proper, therefore, that AFP NEPA Chapter honors those who hold high ethical standards and best exemplify commitment and dedication toward helping society. These awards are given in recognition to those individuals and organizations whose lifetime or long-term achievements have made a significant impact upon society.

Below, you'll find information on submitting an award, a description of the different award categories and some fine print on the selections process.

How to Submit an Award

1. Nominations for any award may be submitted by an individual AFP member, an AFP chapter, or an outside individual or organization.

2. All award nominations must be received by Friday, July 28, 2023. Email nominations to AFP NEPA Chapter Administrator Gene Axton at afpnortheasternpa@gmail.com.

3. Please include your name, phone number, and email address with your nomination.

Nominations must include a narrative that should be no more than two pages. The narrative should include who you are nominating and why, the significant accomplishments made related to the category, and what makes them stand out in the fundraising sector.

4. Please check the list of awardees at the end of this document to see if your nominee already received recognition in the category you plan to nominate them for.

Note: Supporting documents are accepted, but should only enhance the narrative and not be used instead of the narrative to answer the criteria. Please limit supporting documents to a maximum of eight pages.

Award Categories

Nominations will be accepted in the following award categories.

Outstanding Corporation Award

This award honors a corporation or a corporate foundation that demonstrates outstanding commitment through financial support and through encouragement and motivation of others to take leadership roles in philanthropy and community involvement.

Outstanding Foundation Award

Corporate foundations are, for the purpose of this award, considered under the Outstanding Corporation Award guidelines.

Individuals who have passed away within two years of the nomination deadline are eligible to be nominated posthumously.

Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy Award

This award recognizes service by an individual or group of young people ages 5-to-23 demonstrating outstanding commitment to the community through direct financial support, development of charitable programs, volunteering, and leadership in philanthropy. Nominations for this category must be made by a non-relative of the nominee.

2023 Awards in Philanthropy Selection Process

Winners will be selected by a subcommittee of AFP NEPA Chapter board members, AFP members and past honorees. Because of the number of applications submitted, it's not possible to provide written evaluations of entries. If, in the judgment of the committee, no applications in a particular category meet the criteria, no award will be given in that category. All categories will be awarded having met AFP NEPA Chapter's selection criteria and historical high standards of achievement.

Other Awards: Any application may be considered for the chapter’s Lifetime Achievement Award or for an alternate category if the Awards Committee feels it's relevant.

Presentation of Awards: Nominees should be willing to accept the award, if granted, at the National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon on Friday, November 17, 2023. Award recipients will be notified of their selection by mid-August 2023. Individuals and organizations that have previously been honored with an Awards in Philanthropy award can't be nominated again in the same category for which they were already honored. They can be nominated in a different category if appropriate and if they meet the necessary criterion.

Individuals who have passed away within two years of the nomination deadline are eligible to be nominated posthumously.
